London Braces for Transport Disruption Amid Strikes
This prolonged shutdown is expected to cause severe inconvenience for commuters across the capital.
The strike action comes after talks between the RMT and Transport for London (TfL) collapsed over disagreements on pay raises and proposals for a reduced working week.
In a statement, the RMT condemned "management's dismissive approach," which it said has deepened resentment and mistrust among workers, leading to an overwhelming vote in favor of strikes.
Ahead of the disruptions, Claire Mann, TfL’s chief operating officer, appealed, saying, "We call on the RMT to suspend this action, put our fair and affordable offer to their members and continue discussions with us."
London Mayor Sadiq Khan added urgency to the situation on Monday via X, stating he continues "to urge the RMT and TfL to get around the table and resolve their dispute."
